So someone mentioned picturing this story as an animated series - which, TBQH, I do whenever I'm scripting or drafting, but, uh, their comment made me think "haw haw, wouldn't it be funny to make a fake Newtype Magazine spread, complete with overblown headlines and cel shading and ridiculous tilty dramatic horizon" and well
Looked at some old Newtype issues for reference - all the skies in the real spreads were blue, but screw that I wanted a sunset :I
Hand-painted/eyeballed the background from a stock photo I purchased for reference (rights included).
The cel-shading was actually pretty fun. I usually hate working with uniform line width and no undertones, but it was a fun challenge to balance the warm light and cool shadows in cel style.
Anyway, three days later, and with awesome translations by my buddy Paul, here it is: the most weeaboo shit I have ever done. If you read Japanese, you might get a larf or two.
SO ANYWAY THIS IS WHAT I DAYDREAM ABOUT SOMETIMES
p.s. Yes I know Nakai Kazuya doesn't speak English but his tone and timbre are what I have in my mind for TJ
very beautiful! but i present it like a real film, not animated.... with some charismatic actors in the roles of TJ and Amal..oh,dreams...but that's only my opinion)
^_________^ all my friends who read your comic want me to explain why i crack up at this image...so i'm writing out the japanese for them, silly people.
Ohhhh that just makes it worth going back and reading it with his voice in my head!
or maybe at some point it was thursdays and i'm just being lame.
Also, the notes and credits are hilarious. I love them.
Thanks for the reminder - I have a newer version of this where Amal's face looks better... need to upload that.
