Eight months by bigbigtruck Eight months by bigbigtruck
This is a panel from a page that I worked on, got angry with, left, and came back to over and over again. I finally beat the entire chapter into submission tonight after having to redraw about 90% of it.

I didn't realize my drawing style had evolved/changed this much over that span of time.

This book is going to be all over the map, stylistically D:

(The higher level of detail is just because I drew the second picture much larger)

Y'know, I think it's really neat to see the style progress as the story goes, since it shows how much the artist put into it, and how they've gotten better since they began.

My art's leveled up so much since the first few pages, I think I might have to redraw them for the collected edition just to make everything look consistent. XD

It's this kind of thing that gives me hope that my own art will evolve.

Eventually.

Must find some life-drawing classes and stop bullshitting around...

Must also stop spamming people with barely relevant comments.

have that issue all the time, i mean, even within weeks i noticed little tweek's in style, mostly anatomical....i guess that just something you have to deal with.

your art is stunning, and i dont think, not matter how much it changes, that it'll be for the worse. good luck, i'm a huge fan.

Those are both great drawings! There's more attention to detail on the right for certain, but I don't think the change is really drastic enough to warrant a redraw? I mean, unless it's a giant full page spread of akhfkdsa importance, turning the tide ihn the story, etc. IDK kiddo, have some confidence in your work! Both of the drawings are strong and convey the emotion well!

Well, I wound up re-timing the gag that the chapter centers around, so it had to be redrawn for space, too. Fffff I wish I could post it all, as it's full of TJ being a doofus while providing a butt-ton of foreshadowing.

Yeah, I don't want to give away much, since I don't want to spoil the actual comic before it even comes out.

ooh!! haha, this looks awesome! and a great improvement too!
and as for the book being " all over the place stylistically" i've noticed that in a LOT of manga i've read. The beginning artwork are always quite different from later on. It just comes with drawing characters over and over, of course all of that practice would eventually improve your drawing style! so i wouldn't worry about that too much :3 just shows you're learning and working hard at it :D

Eight months, huh? That is a big change, no doubt due to how much you've been drawing. I think it's really neat to see your style change. Reminds me of how different Calving and Hobbes looked the first few years of its run, as compared to the more developed style we usually think of. :)

quite an improvement! the new sketch is much more natural, and not as stiff (something i always have problems with) as the older sketch.

Quite a change indeed! I love looking at how styles change over time . . . heck, stuff I did just over a year ago is barely recognizable now. x3

Oh yay! You did a comparison, I'm so glad! The difference is quite noticeable when putting them side by side! Both sketches are really nice in their own way, but the extra detail in the recent one is overall much more appealing. TJ's pose in the more recent one is more natural, and you've improved significantly with expressions, in my opinion.

ffff oh TJ. One can only imagine what sexy shenanigans Amal is up to on the left. XD

Thanks - before I did the redraw, the only difference I'd noticed is that my pencils had gotten tighter (some of the old storyboard drafts look crazy to me now)
