I am willing to bet this is related to why I was pretty much a failure at dating in college, too :I
It pains me to admit it, but this conversation is pretty close to verbatim.
I never did figure "it" out, either. Consistently did well in tips (percentage-wise, I mean), but never got good at pushing extra stuff.

- We weren't supposed to discuss our sales totals, but we did anyway.
- Covers = headcount, basically. We actually didn't use the term "covers" at the bar, but did at the restaurant I worked at later.

I had 'it" it is a lot like emotionally whoring your self for one sales transaction at a time. Be there best friends, the adorable kid, the cute baker guy... who ever they are going to listen to when you say, but one dozen might not feed every one, most [people at least want two you should get 2 or 3 and then your have some extra for you're self, oh do be sill you don't need to watch a thing, look at that tiny waist!
